Frederick Douglass merged The North Star with Gerrit Smith's Liberty Party Paper, reflecting his evolving view that the Constitution could be read as an anti-slavery document — a break with Garrison. The paper reached approximately 4,000 subscribers across the US, Canada, and Britain and published leading Black intellectual voices.
