Black Women's Club Movement Reaches National Organizing Peak

The National Association of Colored Women, founded in 1896 under the motto 'Lifting As We Climb,' reached its organizational peak in the early 1900s with hundreds of local clubs providing social services, education, and advocacy where segregated governments provided nothing.
