Carter G. Woodson Pursues Education Despite Childhood Poverty

Carter G. Woodson, who would later found Black History Month, worked in coal mines as a young man before entering school at age 20. By the early 1900s he was pursuing higher education, completing his undergraduate degree at Berea College in 1903.
