Ma Rainey Hears and Adopts Blues Style in Performance

Gertrude 'Ma' Rainey, later the 'Mother of the Blues,' incorporated blues music she heard from a young girl in a Missouri tent show into her traveling performances, one of the earliest documented accounts of blues music and its propagation through Black performance circuits.
