Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Founded at Howard University

Alpha Kappa Alpha was founded at Howard University in Washington D.C. by Ethel Hedgeman Lyle and eight other students, becoming the first intercollegiate Greek-letter sorority established by and for Black women, creating an enduring institution for Black women's scholarship and civic leadership.
