Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Founded at Howard University

Three Howard University students founded Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity on January 9, 1914, with a mission of scholarship, service, and fellowship. Unlike some other Black fraternities of the era, Phi Beta Sigma explicitly reached out to non-college men, broadening its social base. The fraternity grew to include prominent members across education, politics, and the arts.
