NAACP Absorbs Niagara Movement's Membership and Mission
By 1911 the Niagara Movement founded by W.E.B. Du Bois had effectively merged into the NAACP, which had been founded in 1909. The NAACP combined Black intellectual leadership with white liberal allies and legal strategy to pursue civil rights through the courts and public advocacy, becoming the dominant civil rights organization for the next half century.
