Woodrow Wilson Segregates Federal Government

President Woodrow Wilson authorized the re-segregation of the federal civil service, reversing gains made since Reconstruction. Black federal workers were demoted, forced to use separate bathrooms and cafeterias, and some fired. The NAACP and leaders including Ida B. Wells and William Monroe Trotter mounted fierce protests, with Trotter confronting Wilson directly in the White House in November 1914.
