Ku Klux Klan Revived at Stone Mountain, Georgia

Inspired by 'The Birth of a Nation,' William Joseph Simmons revived the Ku Klux Klan at Stone Mountain, Georgia in November 1915. The revived Klan targeted Black Americans, Catholics, Jews, and immigrants and grew to millions of members by the early 1920s. Its resurgence drove intensified anti-lynching activism and NAACP organizing throughout the remainder of the decade.
