Marshall 'Major' Taylor's Cycling Legacy Inspires Black Athletes
Marshall 'Major' Taylor, who had been the world cycling champion in 1899 and a pioneering Black sports figure, retired in the 1910s. His career as the first Black world champion in a professional sport and his written autobiography 'The Fastest Bicycle Rider in the World' (1928) documented his extraordinary achievements and the racial discrimination he faced throughout his career.
