Carter Woodson Launches Journal of Negro History

Carter G. Woodson published the first issue of the Journal of Negro History, the first peer-reviewed scholarly journal dedicated to African American history. The journal provided an outlet for rigorous historical research that mainstream academic journals routinely rejected, becoming a cornerstone of Black intellectual life for over a century.
