Bishop Reverdy Ransom Advances Social Gospel in AME Church

Reverdy C. Ransom, an AME bishop and social gospel advocate, used his pulpit and journal editorials throughout the 1910s to link Christian faith to radical social action, racial equality, and workers' rights. Ransom's theology influenced a generation of Black activist ministers who saw the church as an instrument of social transformation rather than merely spiritual salvation.
