Three Plays for a Negro Theatre Premieres on Broadway

Three short plays by Ridgely Torrence were produced in New York in 1917 with an all-Black cast, representing a significant moment in American theater. The production featured serious dramatic roles for Black performers and was praised by critics, becoming an early model for dignified Black dramatic representation outside of minstrelsy.
