Garvey Addresses 25,000 at Madison Square Garden

At the UNIA's first International Convention in August 1920, Marcus Garvey addressed a crowd of 25,000 people from across the world at Madison Square Garden. The convention ratified the 'Declaration of Rights of the Negro Peoples of the World,' asserting Black political and cultural rights globally. It was the largest organized gathering of Black people in U.S. history to that point.
