Cumberland Posey Takes Ownership of the Homestead Grays
In the early 1920s, Cumberland 'Cum' Posey—athlete, entrepreneur, and son of one of Pittsburgh's wealthiest Black families—took full ownership of the Homestead Grays, transforming them from a semi-professional team into a powerhouse. Posey recruited the best players in Black baseball, eventually including future Hall of Famers. The Grays would become one of the greatest dynasties in American sports history under his leadership.
