Kansas City Monarchs Establish Negro National League Dynasty

Founded by J.L. Wilkinson in 1920 as a charter member of the Negro National League, the Kansas City Monarchs became the longest-running franchise in Negro Leagues history, winning ten pennants and two Negro World Series titles over their existence. The 1924 championship—the first Negro World Series—was their first crown. The Monarchs' consistent excellence drew fans from across the Midwest and made Kansas City a national center of Black baseball culture.
