UNIA Convention Ratifies Declaration of Rights of the Negro Peoples of the World

At the UNIA's August 1920 convention in New York, delegates ratified the 'Declaration of Rights of the Negro Peoples of the World,' a 54-article document asserting political, economic, and cultural rights for Black people globally. Drafted primarily by Marcus Garvey, it called for an end to racial discrimination, the right to self-determination, and the return of Africa to African peoples. It stands as one of the most ambitious political documents in Black liberation history.
