UNIA Launches Negro Factories Corporation in Harlem

The Negro Factories Corporation, created by Garvey's UNIA in 1920, operated multiple Black-owned enterprises in Harlem including grocery stores, restaurants, a laundromat, and a printing press. It represented an ambitious attempt at self-sufficient Black economic infrastructure and employed hundreds of African Americans during the height of UNIA power.
