Walter White Conducts Undercover Investigations of Lynchings for NAACP

Throughout the early 1920s, NAACP investigator Walter White—who could pass as white due to his light complexion—conducted dangerous undercover investigations of over 40 lynchings and 8 race riots in the South. His reports, published in The Crisis, brought national attention to the epidemic of racial terror and established the evidentiary foundation for the Dyer Anti-Lynching Bill.
