Ethel Waters Records for Black Swan, Becomes a Star

Ethel Waters became one of the earliest Black women to record, joining Black Swan Records in 1921 and recording through 1923. She was the fifth Black woman to make a commercial record. Her recordings with Black Swan helped establish the label and launched her career as one of the most versatile performers of the 20th century, bridging blues, jazz, and later Broadway.
