UNIA Convention Parade Down Harlem Demonstrates Black Organizational Power
During the UNIA's International Convention in August 1921, tens of thousands marched in a procession down Harlem's 125th Street wearing UNIA regalia and carrying flags of the proposed African republic. The parade was one of the most dramatic public demonstrations of Black organizational power in American history, commanding major press attention and inspiring Black communities across the country and the diaspora.
