Louis Armstrong Joins Fletcher Henderson Orchestra, Transforms Jazz

In fall 1924, Louis Armstrong left King Oliver's band and joined Fletcher Henderson's orchestra at the Roseland Ballroom in New York, where his extraordinary improvisational solos transformed both the band and the course of jazz. Henderson's arrangements began to feature extended solo space as a result of Armstrong's presence, setting the template for the swing era.
