Sissle and Blake Bring 'In Bamville' / 'The Chocolate Dandies' to Broadway
Noble Sissle and Eubie Blake—creators of the landmark 1921 musical 'Shuffle Along'—brought their follow-up, 'In Bamville' (retitled 'The Chocolate Dandies'), to Broadway's New Colonial Theatre on September 1, 1924, after a 24-week national tour. The production continued the duo's mission to establish Black musical theater as a sophisticated art form on the American stage.
