New York Rens Defeat the Original Celtics for the First Time

On December 20, 1925, the New York Renaissance ('Rens') defeated the Original Celtics—the dominant white professional basketball team of the era—for the first time. The victory was a landmark moment in the Black Fives era, demonstrating that the all-Black professional squad could compete with and beat the best white teams in the country.
