Fire!! Magazine Debuts as Voice of Young Harlem Renaissance Radicals
Edited by Wallace Thurman and featuring illustrations by Aaron Douglas, 'Fire!!' magazine debuted in 1926 with contributions from Langston Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston, and Countee Cullen. The publication represented the younger, more radical wing of the Harlem Renaissance, addressing sexuality, class, and Black folk culture in ways that older leaders like Du Bois and Alain Locke found transgressive. Only one issue was published.
