National Urban League Expands Depression-Era Social Services

As the Depression devastated Black urban communities first and hardest, the National Urban League expanded its employment counseling, social work, and advocacy operations in dozens of cities, becoming a critical institutional lifeline and pushing New Deal agencies to include Black Americans in relief programs.
