Augusta Savage Opens Savage Studio of Arts and Crafts in Harlem

Savage opened her Harlem studio, which became a free community arts school training hundreds of young Black artists including Jacob Lawrence, Norman Lewis, and Gwendolyn Knight. The studio was a transformative institution in the development of mid-century Black American visual art.
