Negro History Week Expands to National Celebration in Schools

Carter G. Woodson's Negro History Week, established in 1926, expanded through the 1930s to reach thousands of Black schools and churches nationwide with curricula, exhibits, and events celebrating Black historical achievement. It was the institutional foundation for what became Black History Month.
