Thomas A. Dorsey Writes 'Take My Hand, Precious Lord'

After the death of his wife and newborn son, Dorsey composed this gospel hymn, which became the most celebrated song in Black gospel tradition and a cornerstone of modern gospel music. Dorsey's fusion of blues feeling with sacred lyrics created the genre of gospel music as a distinct American form.
