Mary McLeod Bethune Founds National Council of Negro Women

Bethune united twenty-eight Black women's organizations into a single national coalition, founding the National Council of Negro Women in New York City. The NCNW became the most powerful Black women's political organization in America and a key link between grassroots communities and federal power.
