Archibald Motley Jr. Paints Nightlife Blues Scenes of Chicago's Black Belt

Chicago-based Motley produced some of his most vibrant paintings of Black urban nightlife in the mid-1930s, capturing the jazz clubs, street scenes, and social world of Bronzeville with a vivid color palette and modernist sensibility that would only gain full recognition decades later.
