Gordon Parks joins FSA, creates 'American Gothic'

Gordon Parks arrived in Washington D.C. in January 1942 to work with the Farm Security Administration photography division, becoming the first Black photographer on the FSA staff. He created over 90 photographs of charwoman Ella Watson, including his iconic 'American Gothic, Washington D.C.' (1942), a pointed response to racial inequality staged before a U.S. flag.
