Dizzy Gillespie first records 'A Night in Tunisia'

Dizzy Gillespie made the first recording of his composition 'A Night in Tunisia' in 1944, a piece he had written in 1942. The composition's Afro-Cuban rhythmic foundation and bebop harmonic complexity made it a defining statement of the new jazz, and the 1946 RCA Victor recording was later inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
