The Ink Spots reach No. 1 with 'Into Each Life Some Rain Must Fall'
The Ink Spots, the pioneering Black vocal harmony group, reached No. 1 on both R&B and pop charts with 'Into Each Life Some Rain Must Fall' (featuring Ella Fitzgerald) and 'I'm Making Believe' in late 1944. The group's crossover pop success throughout the 1940s opened doors for Black artists in mainstream markets and their two-part vocal style — high tenor lead with deep-voice talking bridge — directly influenced countless doo-wop groups.
