Sister Rosetta Tharpe records 'Strange Things Happening Every Day'
Sister Rosetta Tharpe recorded 'Strange Things Happening Every Day' in September 1944, releasing it on Decca Records. It became the first gospel recording to cross over to the R&B 'race records' chart, reaching No. 2. Music historians regard it as one of the earliest examples of rock and roll, blending gospel vocals, electric guitar, and blues-inflected rhythm into a new form.
