First recording of Thelonious Monk's ''Round Midnight'

Cootie Williams recorded 'Round Midnight on August 22, 1944, the first studio recording of Thelonious Monk's landmark composition, after Bud Powell persuaded Williams to cut the tune. Monk had composed and copyrighted it in 1943. It would go on to become one of the most recorded jazz standards ever written by a jazz musician, cementing Monk's status as a major composer.
