Buck Leonard and Homestead Grays' Negro Leagues dynasty
Buck Leonard, first baseman for the Homestead Grays, reached the peak of his career in the mid-1940s alongside Josh Gibson, forming what sportswriters called the 'Thunder Twins.' Leonard batted over .400 in several wartime seasons and led the Grays to four consecutive Negro National League pennants from 1942-1945, representing the apex of Negro Leagues professional baseball.
