Buck Leonard's Negro Leagues peak seasons
Buck Leonard, first baseman for the Homestead Grays, reached the peak of his career in the mid-1940s alongside Josh Gibson, forming what sportswriters called the 'Thunder Twins.' Leonard batted over .400 in several wartime seasons and led the Grays to four consecutive Negro National League pennants from 1942-1945. The Grays' dominance during WWII represented the apogee of the Negro Leagues as a professional institution.
