Carter G. Woodson continues Negro History Week through wartime

Carter G. Woodson, founder of the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History and creator of Negro History Week (1926), continued his work through the war years, publishing the Journal of Negro History and distributing educational materials to thousands of Black schools. His insistence on teaching Black history as a countermeasure to white supremacist curricula influenced an entire generation of Black educators and activists.
