Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker record 'Groovin' High'

Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker recorded 'Groovin' High' on February 9, 1945 — described by jazz scholar Thomas Owens as 'the first famous bebop recording.' Released March 1947, the session also produced 'Salt Peanuts,' 'Shaw Nuff,' and 'Hot House,' collectively introducing the bebop revolution to a wide audience and permanently changing the direction of jazz.
