Louis Jordan records 'Caldonia' — jump blues dominates

Louis Jordan and His Tympany Five recorded 'Caldonia' on January 19, 1945, releasing it on Decca Records. The song became a No. 1 R&B hit and exemplified Jordan's jump blues — small-combo, groove-driven, lyrically witty music that bridged swing and rock and roll. Jordan's eight-year streak of 57 R&B chart hits, including 18 No. 1s, made him the dominant Black pop artist of the era.
