Hattie McDaniel stars in Beulah radio show

Hattie McDaniel, who had won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1940, took the title role in the CBS radio comedy Beulah beginning in 1947, becoming one of the first Black performers to star in a nationally broadcast radio series. While constrained by the maid character, McDaniel used her platform to advocate for better representation and higher pay for Black actors.
