Horace Pippin paints 'Holy Mountain III' — visionary anti-war art
Self-taught Black painter Horace Pippin, whose right arm had been partially paralyzed by a World War I wound, completed his 'Holy Mountain' series in the mid-1940s, visionary paintings blending the peaceful Biblical prophecy of Isaiah with his firsthand experience of war and racial violence. His folk-primitive style and intensely personal vision made him one of the most critically regarded American painters of the decade.
