Roy Brown records 'Good Rockin' Tonight' — proto rock and roll

Roy Brown recorded 'Good Rockin' Tonight' at J&M Studios in New Orleans in 1947, releasing it on De Luxe Records. Music historians cite it as one of the contenders for the first rock and roll record. Brown's gospel-drenched, melismatic delivery directly influenced B.B. King, Bobby 'Blue' Bland, Little Richard, and Elvis Presley, who covered it in 1954.
