Thelonious Monk records 'Round Midnight on Blue Note
Thelonious Monk recorded his definitive version of ''Round Midnight' on November 21, 1947, for Blue Note Records, released on Genius of Modern Music: Volume 1. The composition — copyrighted 1943, first recorded by Cootie Williams in 1944 — became the most recorded jazz standard composed by a jazz musician. Monk's idiosyncratic approach to harmony and rhythm established him as a unique genius of modern jazz.
