Charles Hamilton Houston Dies, Leaving Civil Rights Legal Legacy

Charles Hamilton Houston, dean of Howard Law School and architect of the NAACP's legal strategy against segregation, died at 54. Houston had trained Thurgood Marshall and dozens of civil rights lawyers, and developed the systematic legal attack on Plessy v. Ferguson. He did not live to see Brown v. Board but was its intellectual father.
