Romare Bearden Develops His Artistic Vision

Romare Bearden continued developing his unique visual approach during the early 1950s, exhibiting with Samuel Kootz Gallery in New York. Though his most celebrated collage period would come later, his 1950s work established him in the New York art world and grounded his identity as a Black American artist.
