Korean War Demonstrates Success of Military Desegregation

The Korean War became the first American war fought by a fully desegregated military following Truman's 1948 executive order. The performance of Black soldiers in integrated units confounded segregationists and provided evidence used in civil rights arguments that racial integration strengthened rather than weakened institutions.
