Samuel Lee Gravely Jr. Becomes Naval Officer, Path to Flag Rank

Samuel Lee Gravely Jr. served in the Korean War and continued his Navy career on a path that would make him the first Black officer to command a US Navy warship and the first Black admiral. His career in the early 1950s represented the advance of Black officers in the newly desegregated armed forces.
