Chester Himes Publishes For Love of Imabelle (A Rage in Harlem)

Chester Himes published For Love of Imabelle (later retitled A Rage in Harlem) in France, the first installment of his Harlem Detective series featuring Coffin Ed Johnson and Grave Digger Jones. The novels brought a distinctly Black noir sensibility to American literature and were enormously popular in France.
